Challenge

Given a set of design requirements and a set of example hand calculations, I was tasked with writing a MATLAB code that could calculate and size a commerical airliner that used both existing technologies and future technologies.

Once the aircraft was calcuated, I was tasked with generating the neccesary drawings for both aircraft, as well as an internal layout for passengers and cargo.

Once both aircraft were calcuated and drawn, a performance trade study was to be conducted for both of these aircraft.

Key Results
  • Wrote a complete 900+ line MATLAB code to size a commercial airliner based on technology multiplying coefficients and design requirements
  • Used SOLIDWORKS to generate 2 complete aircraft models that included and interior layout.
  • Wrote a Trade-Study that evaluated the benefits of using traditonal aluminum components against the use of lighter-weight composite components.
